Step 4... Contact other local sugar makers in your area and see if they have similar sickness. If they do then refer back to reply#3

Step four: Identify every promising maple tree within 3 miles of your house...

Step four: Identify every promising maple tree within 3 miles of your house...been there, done that, except it's a 30 mile radius.
It's definitely a sickness

I'm a mail carrier in my town. I have every tree on the route identified and the best ways to run tubing in the larger woods. :D

I have been snowmobile in northern New Hampshire and look at those untapped maple trees.

That sickness is called the "maple bug". It is caused by the desire to smell maple sap boiling. Sufferers of this disease have been known to spend large sums of money on shiney stainless steel and plastic tubing to satisfy their addiction to the smell of maple sap steam. There is no known cure!

All equipment and supplies really should be stamped with Surgeon General warnings about the risks and long term effects.

I have to be careful when driving, as I have been identifying sugar maples on the side of the road wherever I go. "Gee, officer, I don't know why I was swerving..."
