April 9, 1917. One hundred years ago today.
Remembering three family members.
Roy, 25 years old. Killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
Pat, 27 years old. Wounded in Europe and gassed at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, but able to return home to Canada and raise a family.
Ewart, 19 years old. His name, along with over 11,000 fellow Canadian soldiers listed as "missing, presumed dead' in France during WWI, is inscribed on the ramparts of the Vimy memorial.
