I bought a new bottling tank this year and was wondering how you fellas would clean this before the first use? Just soapy water and rinse well? Also got the cone filter for it too. I think I saw that these filters should be dampened before using. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.

Dampen the filters - absolutely or you won't get much through them.

We don't wash maple equipment with soap but new equipment would be an exception. Make sure to triple rinse with hot water as any soap residue will be noticeable in the syrup.

Where did you get your bottling tank, goldnut? I'd like to see a pic of it or a link to a pic. Sounds like something I might need...thanks.

Here is a link. I am thinking of getting one of the evaporators form here. What are your opinions of these?

Sweet...I just might have to order one of those by next year. Someone else will have to comment on the evaporators..I've never owned one.

Can't say I have ever heard of anyone complain about the WF Mason evaporators.

I have a bottling tank and stand from Mason. Absolutely no problems with it and it's quality work. Cuts no corners.
