Every year I scrape and power wash off the fire side of my flue pan. Is this necessary? We burn seasoned maple and there is only a very thin layer of soot. My thoughts are that because the fire is so hot it continually burns off anyway and the annual cleaning may not be necessary. Also has anyone tried chimney cleaning logs To help clean the pan in the tail end of your final fire for the year?

If you want them sparkling clean. I would use Easy Off grill cleaner to get the soot off. Spray it on and leave it for an hour or 2. Reapply if needed the power wash it off.

I had to repair a couple of pin holes in my flue and used the power washer and finally an air die grinder with those poly head gasket remover wheels. I cant say as I saw a difference as long as I brush off any carbon build up before I fire the rig each day, but she sure was shinny after that wash job.
