Installing 2 way tape for gasket under steam away

Tried putting on the tape that came with the steam away back in January,couldn't seem to get it to stick,so just lowered the steam away onto the flue pan. While boiling yesterday the gasket slipped out of place,so this morning lifted the steam away up again,still couldn't get the tape to stick very well,could it be just too cold? Thinking about getting 2 way carpet tape to keep the gasket in place

All the rigs I've seen with a steam away have a length of hose for a gasket. Use high temp hose, not made from nasty stuff,slice it lengthwise and slip it over the top edge of the flue pan...instagasket! If the 45's at the corners leak...a little high temp silicone.
