Here in RI, I've only cooked 4 times this season but today's syrup was the lightest I've gotten all season. Usually it's the first cook but not this year.16193no

Karen
We had family over yesterday while I was boiling outside and as I finished I said I am so excited that it would be in the 60s the next couple days and on a good day I can get 5 gallons from my tree I emptied the 5 gallon bucket yesterday and this morning it was full just made my day. I have one other tree on my street that is as good or even better than mine that is all I need I will tap early next year to if same as this year

Jacob, you are killing it this year! Good job!

That's good news. I've finally got a boil going today. Still some more to go collect. Most of the trees are running today. I've got some decent ice blocks in the bags still.
This is only my second boil this season. First was a month ago.

OK, back to work I go. Break is over.

I also ran much lighter yesterday. My previous batch was very dark and it looks like the syrup in my finisherer awaiting filtering and packing into a barrel and retail containers is going to be amber. I've had it go back one grade lighter in other years when I had enough sap to give me a long boil, but this time both boils were about the same, one was 530 gal on sap and the next was 510 gal and I'm fairly certain it has gone back to Amber from very dark.
