Hello all, very new to site, Been spending way to much time on here--- having just found you all.
Since retiring from the Navy I have been trying some of the things that I have not had the time to try, due to sailing commitments & Service requirements.
Started tapping at the last posting in Ottawa area as a fun thing to try getting closer with youngest daughter. We had some great results and good memories 4th year this year. Anyway!!!

This year I have gotten an Under sink model RO unit, I am considering building a small scale RO to use with the 25 trees we tapped this year. I havn't been able to find any threads displaying as small a set up or similar build, I apologize for time wastage if I just didn't find them.

 Is this worth the effort or are these Membranes not the type required? After I remove the Carbon Filters for sure.
Currently boiling off in Steam tray & Turkey fryer burner with large pot and propane 8-10hours per run plus working at new consulting gig 37.5hours week.

I have pre filter unit, the 3 stage RO housing and all associated tubing, Pump from RV with Pressure Tank and Plastic Food Grade Barrels

I liked this guys setup...

I liked it so much I copied his design with my one membrane. I'll expand to more membranes next year. The RO seems to have at least halved my boiling time.

That's my friend Carl's invention. To buy one, check out his ad in the Syracuse Craigslist postings. Search: RO, syrup, maple syrup

I'm using 3 150gpd membranes from amazon, aquatec 8800 pump. Been working pretty good--starting at 2.5% coming out at 6.5ish after one run through... Putting through 35 gallons right now...recircing it this time to see if I can get it up any higher. Pretty happy with the results the first time around. I had been runnign it with a aqutec 6800, and it just wasnt cutting it. I haev about $200 into mine using parts and pieces off ebay and including the new pump. Can't complain, has cut my boiling time in less than half. I say build it and don't look back!
