View Full Version : Pulling taps early?

Just finished my first season with a dozen taps (I live just outside of Boston). I pulled the taps out last week because I made all they syrup I needed/could manage. We're experiencing another cold snap and the sap is running again (I can see it dripping out the tap holes). Should I be concerned about the health of the trees because I pulled the taps out before the tree went to bud? Next year I'll be prepared to ride it all the way out.

No worries, that sap is starting the healing process.

Thanks! Just curious, when do you pull yours?

I leave them in till the end. "The end" can be ropey syrup, buddy sap, out of wood, out of time, out of beer, etc... Just depends on what your personal situation is. Sounds like you made all you wanted. Now go back to eyeing the neighbors trees and researching a bigger arch for next year!
