I want to add a dial thermometer to my flat pan this summer. Can I get by with a bulkhead fitting for it or do I have to hunt out a stainless welder to do for me?

I want to add a dial thermometer to my flat pan this summer. Can I get by with a bulkhead fitting for it or do I have to hunt out a stainless welder to do for me?my pans came with 1/4" NPT bulk heads, but they were too high for the level i like to run my pans at, so i added a half inch bulkhead fitting for a 7" dial, it works great.

I wonder about a well type temp gauge? That way you can pop it in and out as needed.

On my old pan I use a Tee coming out of the pan and reduced down to thread the thermometer to go straight in and added my valve on the drop down. Your whole valve stem in in liquid this way.

I have used one in my line from preheater to floatbox. Response is very slow. I would not use one for in pan.

I got a weldless bulkhead on eBay. They sell them for beer making. Used all last season on my back pan for a site glass. Came with a silicon oring so it takes heat ok.
