So the preheater to the 3x8 Algier evaporator never got drained one late night. Next run after the freeze down......guess what.....leaks. Had to cut it out of the hood, bring it in the house to thaw. Next morning there is this sticky gooey stuff on the floor. A taste test revealed that it was maple syrup that had drained out of the preheater. My thinking is that whatever concentrate that was left in the preheater perhaps evaporated during the wood fire cool down? But how could the concentrate evaporate inside the preheater? The syrup did not look dark, more of a amber so I dont think it was just crap that had been in there a long time. Perplexed. Any ideas?

okay.....you didn't really do a taste test of the sticky gooey stuff off the floor, did you? I mean, surely the 5-second rule had already expired.

Does your preheater have a vent like ours? If so, pipes were pretty hot and maybe it just steamed off...
