Feed Pan Efficiency

This year my feed pan has been an old buffet pan with a weldless valve.

I burnt and wire brushed the paint off a 2 drawer file cabinet and attached it to the arch.

From that box came the stovepipe and a place to set the feed pan.

This temporary stack box has worked for this year.

For next year I’ll make something better for the stack and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth going with a better made version of “warming shelf” system or if getting a feed pan that sits on the divided pan would work as well.

I’m not sure what works better. Does the steam off the boiling pan preheat as well as the system I used this year?

My feed pan stays at about 120 degrees when just adding liquid. somewhat lower with ice.

Thanks for the reply. 120° isn't bad.

Mine didn't do much better. I think for the simplicity of adding a stack without a shelf it might be worth a try.

I didn't want to try setting my pan on the dividers since it's still a bit sooty and I wasn't sure if it would be a little heavy sitting on the dividers.

I'll have to get a feed pan that fits for next year.

Note the dark near edge on warming pan. There is a 2" X 4" open rectangle where it is tickled by flame and exhaust which allows the liquid to reach 120. It is a very consistent 120 when it dribbles into the flat pan.

I had planned to buy a feed pan to set on top of the divided pan. I spent so much building the shack that I decided to make a new box on the back of the arch to have a preheating shelf to hold my old buffet pan. So I'll basically be running the same as last year. It looks a little better than the mangled old file cabinet I used last year.
