Screwing on caps

Forgive the silly question but I'm not sure we put the caps on properly and want to make sure. I got the 8 oz Glass Bottle w/Drop Lock Thread from Bascom's to put my syrup in. When I screwed on the lids, I thought I was at finger tight but then there was a little "pop" and the cap then screwed on even more. Had my husband try one & the same thing happened to him.

Did we screw the caps on too far? This is our first year putting in bottles so I'm really not sure. I've got extra caps & it was only about 6 or so bottles so I can re-do them if needed.

You did it correctly. You want the cap to clear the lip and then just make sure it is snug. The syrup will shrink as it cools and create a vacuum effect. This is what actually seals the cap.
