Last Sunday I was running the last of my sap and decided to see what my small flat pan and arch would do... I was burning heat treated pine pallets as fuel with natural draft and noticed that the entire first section of the steel stove pipe was glowing red. I don't have a temp gauge on my stack but does anyone have a clue as to what temp steel turn bright red?

Well not sure on glowing steel, but our 10 inch pipe on the 2x6 evaporator runs about 875 to 925 degrees. the polished stainless steel now looks blue, and that is with out forced air.

Maybe 1000 degrees F or more! Hot enough that you probably want to back off just a tad!:)

Way over 1000. Probably 1600+. Wasting way too much heat and doing your gear no good.

Thanks for the info wasn't intentional actually figured with a homemade arch and natural draft I wouldn't see those types of temperatures.
