For those of you who freeze sap in order to concentrate it or even those who just toss ice in the buckets, what is a good ratio of ice to liquid to target. I've got two 20 gallon containers of sap that froze solid over the weekend and were just starting to thaw yesterday. I thought about just tossing the ice but felt like I would be losing too much of my sugar since it was only about 5-10% thawed. My question is at what ratio of ice/liquid do you think is it safe to toss the ice and not lose any sugar.

Everyone is going to have a personal preference, but I wouldn't toss the ice unless it's less than half or a third of the bucket.

I boil all of it, but I'm over gunned in terms of evaporator size. Personally, I figure if there's any sugar at all in it, I want it. It's a short season, and I have a lot of time and money into getting it all working. I'd rather use it while there's something to cook, you know? Gotta make hay while the sun shines.
