Yesterday was an epic day for me sap wise, I got 465 gallons of sap. Most ever for me. I ran my RO and I noticed it was very slow, running at about 225psi. I assumed it was the very cold sap, all of the barrels had ice in them when I collected. Fast forward....after about 200 gallons the motor shut off. It seems to have over heated. I let it cool and put a submersible in my tank to help feed the RO and reduce the load on the motor. It's a 3/4hp. Now the motor has no suction, it will push but will not suck out of my tank. The pump unit on the motor is not a procon. I don't see a name on it. Do these go bad? I just bought the RO this year, it's only processed about 1200 gallon of sap so far.
Is there a fix or do I need a new pump?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Have you called the ro manufacturer?
You should have a feed pump to any ro... they should not be trying to suck the supply.

Cold sap will cut RO performance, If you have ice in the barrels that will really drop the output. Have you checked the prefilter? After the warm up and the sap we got now has alot of stuff coming out of the lines. Most RO's have a low pressure shut off so if the filter is plugged that might be it

Yes, he believes I was running it at too high if a pressure. The system actually seemed to make a rattling sort of noise until I reached that 225 mark and then it ran quietly and smoothly so I used it as my normal operating rate.
Also sorry I was wrong it is a Procon and it's a Marathon motor.

So it's back up and running? The pressure caused it?

Problem solved......totally clogged prefilter. Ugh, this is what I get trying to diagnose after a 17hr day.

I change my pre-filter every day and if my low pressure gauge reads low, I change during the day. Anytime you have issues, just call Steve, he will always be glad to answer any questions on his unit.
I have known Steve since before he was building maple equipment, great guy, good equipment. Well designed, great workmanship and priced right.

I spoke to him yesterday afternoon, he is a really good guy. He help me with using a pump before the pre-filter to help ease up on the motor. I just never even thought to think that the pre-filter would get so clogged in one day. I do change them before every run, but with those warm temps and such a large volume of sap it's just clogged up because of all the debris in the sap. Thanks again
