Help with reading sap hydrometer

So the discussion in the woods this morning was how to read the sap hydrometer. So to settle the discussion I will post a picture and ask you what does it read. Thanks. 1591215913

One pic looks like 1.4 and the other looks like 1.2

To me it looks like a lot of boiling!

Yes lots of boiling, glad we invested in an RO.

Don't take into consideration the liquid that climbs up the hydrometer. Read the scale to the level of the liquid in the container.

Ok thanks the discussion was between 1.2 and 2.2. Was not sure if the one was the line above it or below it.
