orlon filter

I have been using the same orlon filter now for 3 years now, with this being its 3rd. I noticed this year my syrup is real slow to go through it and I cannot get all of it to finish running through the filter. I have been using hot\boiling water to clean it after its use. How often should those cone filters be replaced? I also have been using pre-filters as well inside the cone.

3 years is pretty good. You should treat yourself to a new filter! How long they last is gonna depend on how much syrup has gone through them and also how "dirty" the syrup was. So it's always gonna vary.

Put it in the washing machine with a little un-scented detergent, and then run it three times through with just water. The soap paranoia gets out of control around here sometimes.

Don't put it in the washing machine! If you've ever taken one apart you'd understand why.
