Has any one tried to sandblast your evaporator pans with soda or walnut shells to clean the soot and to do a general cleaning of them?

Yes , I have a hand held quart size sand blaster , I use regular sandblasting sand . But I turn the pressure down low and proceed and ajust as needed . OH do it out side the sugar house , did it inside once , sand every where , As I said before start with low pressure .

Yes , I have about the same set up. You just put a hose into the bag of the stuff you're going to use to sandblast, and let her go. I was wondering about using walnut shells. Thanks for the info.

Last year we had a problem with our float system. Chard the pan pretty good .Took it home and in 10 minutes it was clean and ready to go. The pan was made out of 18 gauge stainless steel so I had no problems.
