I have some sap suckers in my area.

They ravage some of the trees with rows of holes. The big old ones especially. Is there any way to repel these pest? I suspect that they not only lick the sap but take advantage of the buffet of bugs that show up for the sap, and I believe that is why they drill hole after hole.

I'm familiar with guns and that option but would like to consider other options.

Thanks

Probably good to read that last paragraph especially before you start blowing them away!

How about just accepting that humans are a very small cog in the wheel of nature and that you can't control every aspect of nature that you consider a pest?

Diversity is a good thing and a benefit to your sugarbush. Maples grow in a forest not a garden.

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Federal regulations promulgated under its authority prohibit shooting of sapsuckers. Shooting of this species would be an ineffective control anyway because transient birds tend to replace occasional losses to local sapsucker populations.

Just in case OP missed last paragraph. Why not just build a wall around your trees to keep all them nasty undesirables away? ;-)
