I just happened to see a Gast 0870 vacuum pump for sale near me and I'm wondering if this is something that could work for me on a couple of setups that I have. Both have no more than 75 taps and I'm currently using a cheap pump that is not rated for continuous duty. I'm thinking that this could be a good replacement and I'm wondering what people think:

I can't find a lot of information but similar current models pull in the upper 20's and since I don't have a large setup I'm thinking that they could work. If they would, what else would I need to complete the setup?

Gast doesn't have any information on this model but the closest thing they have a 3/4 HP unit in their current model the 0823 (http://gastmfg.com/products/compressors-and-pumps/rotary-vanes-motor-mounted/0823). That model pulls 26.5".
I guess my question to the group since I can't find any specific information is would something like the this be OK and what would I need to do to put a pump like this into service?

I have used a 0823 in the past . It's no different than any other vacuum pump .Just hook it up to a moisture trap and releaser , and plug it in

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading a post on here that said that if there is a " P " in the serial number on gast pumps then it meant the pump was designed for pressure ie an air compressor and not a vacuum pump.

I've reached out to Gast to see if they can give more information. I did see that on some post but that pump is billed on several sites as being a vacuum pump so I'm thinking that it is. We'll see what Gast says.

Thanks. I've seen models that have jars on them and this just has the two openings. I'm assuming one is where I hook it up to a moisture trap connected to the releaser but I'm not sure what the other port is for or what to put on there. Also, what about oil?

OK - Just got an email response back from Gast:
"The spec for this pump are 10 psi max pressure and 7.20 cfm open flow. If used for vacuum it is 15” hg and 7.20 cfm."
So it looks like it could be used for both pressure and as a vacuum pump. I was surprised at the 15" number because their current 1/4HP model can pull 26.5" and this is a 1/2 HP model. I've asked for clarification on that but does anyone know why this has a higher CFM rating and a larger motor but would pull fewer inches of vacuum?
