Guy's,

I'm going to experiment with a couple of these pumps (model # 2088) on some tree's that are close to my house. That way I can monitor them and bring them inside to avoid freezing. I would run them when the sap was running and not leave them out. I'm going to hook them up with quick-disconnects to make the switching out and reconnecting easy.
Anyway, my question is about where I could get away with placing them. I know the ones I've seen personally have been mounted above the collection vessel, just like a releaser would be. But would they still generate vacuum and pump the sap up four feet or so into a 55 gal. barrel if I were to place the pump/battery box on the ground next to the barrel? Or does the output side have to have no resistance by gravity flowing out of the pump and into the barrel, meaning it has to be above the collection vessel?
I was talking with another local sugar maker about this over the weekend and we both agreed I'd have to try it and see what happens. Then I got thinking that maybe someone on here already has results from this sort of experiment!
Has anyone tried this? If so, what happened?

I have a box with my pump that I set on the ground next to my ibc tote that I pump up into. About 4 ft tall, you should be fine. There are quite a few threads on here of people's setups, very helpful for me when it was time for me to set one up for myself.

We run four Shurflo pumps and all of them pump up a minimum of 3'. One actually pumps up 5' to a line that crosses a trail and then slopes down to a tank on the other side of the trail. The vacuum isn't affected at all by that much rise.

I am happy to hear the slight rise won't be a problem! Thanks guy's.
