Just looking to hear how much you guys are boiling in a day from your set up. Please include pan size and heat source. This year I am using a 20x36 inch pan on a home made arch. Trying to figure out how much I can do. I understand each situation will differ but trying to get a rough idea. I don't want to tap more then I can handle. Thanks again

We can turn 150 gallons of sap into stem every hour with a wood fired 4*12. Maybe more as it is hard to figure with constant gathering and whatnot.

If that is a flat pan I would expect you'd get about 5 gallons per hour evaporation rate.

Mine is a 25x37 flat pan on a fuel tank arch, i but i also have 2 boiling pots on the front and a preheater copper coil around the stack, and a small blower, it averages about 7-9gal/hr. Typically will do 30gal in a 4hr evening havent had more than that at a time to see how much we could handle, i imagine 50-60 probably. I have 25 taps.

I can process 110 gallons in 40 40 30 batchs in an 18 hour shift on a 2x2 flat pan homemade evaporator with a pre-heater. Burning 2 yr seasoned hardwood, 2ft long, split down to almost kindiling mixing in pine and a huge pile of birch bark.
I run only 3/4 to an inch deep in the pan.

We try to boil all that we gather each day which can be as high as 1000 gallons of sap, (avg is around 500) on our 3 x 10.

Chris

I pushed a little over 7,000 gallons through our RO and evaporator in a single day last year. That's a record I really don't want to break! Anything over 5,000 gallons makes for a very long day.

I have a 2x 3 flat pan and homemade outdoor firebrick/granite field stone arch with 6' of 6" stove pipe. In the 6 or 7 years with this set up I can barely crack 5 gallons an hour with seasoned hemlock small splits, though I believe 6 gallon per hour is the advertised limit. I added an Urban farmer duct booster fan (http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/222408972359?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true) this year and still can't crack it, even with son-in-law help! Still having fun though and making some great stuff this year.

Sounds typical for a 2x3 flat pan. Do you have a door? How deep is your sap? You'll be hard pressed to beat 6 gal/hr consistently. Maybe once in a while but not all day

Big Eddy, I use an old wagon tailgate for a door and keep the sap at about an inch and 1/2 or less. Agree, with at lot of work I can get 6 gallons an hour going, but not all day! I do have a few warming pans placed on the field stone. I think this is where I need to focus my next round of improvements.
