So I have been noticing everyone else's numbers when they talk about how much sap they have so far and I feel like I'm not stacking up. I have 26 taps that have been exactly one week in great weather conditions and I have about 20 gallons altogether. Does that seem right? I'm not trying to complain I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just my trees.

Could be both?:)
Trees can be funny about giving up there sap.
Describe the trees and tapping method, and weather conditions. We might be able to find something in that info.

Chris

What kind of spiles do you use? I see my buckets with metal 7/16 spiles produce less usually than my plastic spiles with drops into buckets. Are there leaks under the taps? Leaks occur if you are not to careful when drilling the hole or using the wrong bit both of which i have done.If the weather was good fir your area then i might say you have dud trees, (i have several that don't produce much if any).

Trees are from 12" to 30" in diameter, I use 5/16 plastic spiles with tubing into buckets and the weather has been mid 30s at night mid 40s to 50s during the day.

Sounds like tapping method may be ok.
What was your depth of drilling the hole?
Have the trees produced good qty of sap for you in the past?
The temps sound OK during the day but was there a freeze at night? They need to have a freeze to shut them off and turn them back on.

I think I remember you are on the coast? Night time temps have been too warm for the past week for sap to run properly. You need nights down below freezing and days above freezing for a good sap flow.
Monday (tomorrow) has the right temperatures, but will be breezy which will limit sap flow.
Tuesday will probably see a little run but it will cloud in around noon again slowing or stopping the flow.

With no freeze overnight, without vacuum you will get very little, and even with vacuum you would get less than if you'd had the ideal freeze thaw cycles and the sugar will be lower in the sap too, without that cycle. I didn't notice which kind of maples you are tapping.

Not really sure what type of maple they are. And I wasnt really picky about the depth of my holes but they are all 1.5" to 2" deep. So I guess I'll see how it goes tomorrow since it's going to freeze tonight then warm up. And last year I seemed to have the same issue.

I have identified my trees as Norway maples. Do they tend to produce less sap?

I have identified my trees as Norway maples. Do they tend to produce less sap? Definitely less than sugar maples.
