Silver maples

Well I had to pull all my taps that were in silver maples today, the sap was no longer usable. I was hoping for at least another good week. Has anybody else in southeast Michigan come across this yet? With that being said now I will have the available buckets to put in my other wood lot that is mostly sugar maples.

My silvers have been extremely slow this year. They had budded very slightly in the January thaw, but sap is still clear and not bitter in the slightest. My sugars have been the all stars so far and I have collected about 30 gallons of sap off the 9 trees in my yard this year so far. Hoping the trees hold out for the next few days when the weather turns favorable again for what looks like a pretty solid 2 weeks.
