I'm putting together a to with a single 4" Mes membrane hoping to add another in the future. I'm exploring my options on Hp pumps and am probably going with the series 4 Procon. 330gph. So I'm looking for insight on sizing the motor to it. I'm off grid in Alaska making birch syrup so power consumption is a concern. I am not planning on making high brix concentrate, more like running my .8 % sap through a time or two to bump it up to 5 brix at most. So I'm wondering if I could get away with a 3/4 Hp motor on the procon. Using a feed pump as well. My evaporator does around 50 gph and I process around 500 gallons of sap a day for the three week season. So just seeing if this pump seems like a good match. Thanks for the ideas.

Actually, I think it has more to do with how much pressure you want to run.
My RO has two 4x40 membranes in series and I run the same series 4 330gph pump.
Pushing the pressure up to 250 psi, I’m really straining a 1 HP motor.
As such, we just keep it down to 200~225 psi.

With a ¾ HP, I’d take a guess at around 150 psi would be the max you could get.
Here’s the spec sheet: https://store-c59cb.mybigcommerce.com/content/Series%204%20Pump_spec.pdf

I can’t tell you how many passes at what pressure would yield your desired outcome.
We batch process and I’ve not tested the result of a single pass.

What I can tell you is that mine, with clean membranes, cold sap and 225 psi, gets about 3 gpm concentrate and 1.5 gallons permeate.
At 150 psi, I’m thinking in the neighborhood of 0.8 gpm permeate.

Right or wrong, I’ve heard it said that removing half of the water will double your brix.
That may be a place to start crunching numbers to find out if it is better for you to run an additional pass or increase the size of your motor to fit within your electrical capacity.

Per procon specs: 330 gph procon at 250 psi requires 1.22 HP, 200 psi requires 1.0 HP. I would recommend going with 1.5 HP.
