Evaporator pan needs help

I have a smoky maple pan 2x4 and when my wife got it for me it didnt include the thermometer which is usually right next to the draw off I need suggestions on how I keep on an eye on my boiling temp next to the draw off any help would be great thanks

Place a long stem, clip on type. next to the draw off.

I used to use a Taylor candy thermometer to check the temp coming out of my preheater. I'm not sure how it would work in the syrup channel because it might not go deep enough. It would be worth a try if you have one already.
