Hey all, we picked a strange year for our first one sugarin, but we had a whole lotta fun! We're hoping for another boil this weekend, but we'll see how the sap is!

Only ended up with 1 gallon of syrup so far, but 90 gallons of our sap went toward our maple wine, which won't be bottled for another 10 months! We'll let you know how it turns out!

New waterloo small 2x6 . Had to learn how it worked but I got 31 gal. syrup light to dark from 140 taps. Sold allmost all of it in glass bottles but afew gal.

That experience of maple sugaring regardless of all the problems I had this year- priceless

Would I do it all over again- I cant wait for next year!

saddly enough i am posting on here now- 185 taps as i finally counted as i took them all down today and i came up with 28 gallons from fancy to dark and 5 gallons of commercial/cooking syrup which i'll bottle in quarts and sell as cooking to fellow cooks, makes a nice glaze.

Cleaning buckets, tubes and taps as we speak.
Its always the saddest day of the year.

Final count (March) wasn't the final count, this is!

April season: 117 taps and made 11.5 gallon (Commercial) in 5 days. which included tapping gathering boiling and pulling the taps.

so total 2007 = approx. 112 gallons for the year.:)

We pulled our taps today and finished what was left in the pans. Dumped about 200 gallons of buddy sap. Total for the season was 12 gallons (on 40 taps here plus some sap from neighbors) ranging from fancy to B.

I was hoping for 25 gallons but I'm happy with 22.
Headed for 250 - 300 taps for 2008.

Finished bottling our last batch tonight,5 gals. Brings our total to 225 imp gallons,record numbers for us.We have boiled & bottled everyday since March 24th. Don't keep track of amounts of colors. All good looking clear syrup, later stuff is a little darker but better flavor. It's been a long session but fun & gratifying also.

We made 92 Gallons and 1 pt. on 340+ Taps. Round numbers: Medium - 56, Dark - 28, and Grade B - 8.

82 gallons 3 quarts out of 375 taps. Less than 3 gallons of B, mostly Dark A but did get almost 8 gallons of Fancy for the first time!!

19.5 gallons from +/- 100 taps. Medium amber to grade B. Pulled taps before the commercial run. And I know someone is going to say I told you so... but looking for a bigger evaporator next year!

We're boiling out the evaporator today. I can't remember a season that went this late in my lifetime.

We made about 845 US gallons from approx 3800 taps.

30% Light (Light amber)
45% Medium (Medium Amber)
25% Amber (Dark Amber)

This time next year we should be over 5,000 taps - all we need is the time and energy.

Calling a season, 320 gallons on 1450 taps mostly dark A and B. What fancy and medium we made, approx 70 gallons, was crappy tasting and was sold in bulk. Great season over all for us.

Hi all,
34 gallons, from Medium to "B" ( I think it was 2 gallons of "B")
Still got about a 1/2 gallon in the pans, will boil that out Friday and clean up.
Most we have ever made!!
I guess adding 30 taps helped us with the total.
Our average with 100 taps is 25 -27.
Man am I glad this is done!!!!
Let's see it's 11 months till we start again, WHO'S COUNTING!!!!!!!

I'm still working on mine. I frankly lost count and need to go back to my container starting inventory plus purchased containers less remaining inventory and then add my bulk. Should be ready for that over the weekend. I always double check it this way because a few different people help can after I get the density and grade it but they do not tend to keep good counts.

My friend Ed finished up today.... more outta tireness I think, been running a bit everyday for a month, and little spurts before that.

210 taps, mostly reds

31 Imp gl (37 US gl)

I see a lot of people are disappointed in their yields, seems to be a common thread... you'd be surprised to know an Imp gl per 10 taps is normal here, about 1/3 to 1/2 of what you guys get. I don't know what the difference is, soil mostly I think, shallow and rocky. We were very excited about the 30 gl, since that 1.5 times normal, and some of you guys got more than double that and are disappointed. I guess it's a matter of perception. Not knocking anyone for it of course, just making an observation.

a few drops still to tally in the canner, but I'm calling it for us...

97 gallons from 355 taps. .273 gal per tap (last year we were .176)

25 light

42 medium

30 dark

(we had about 20 gal of off flavor that is included in these totals)

We wrapped up everything today. Ended up with about 125 gallons on 300 taps. Everything with the exception of 15 gallons was all grade A. Most we have ever made. Was glad to see the season come and I am glad it is over......

Sounds like you had an excellent year. You are the first that I heard of getting over .4 gal per tap this year. Good going!!

We ended the year with 28.5 gallons from 160 taps. We had a dickins of a time getting any sap to run. Loved the new evaporator...perhaps next year we will get enough sap to put it to work. Learned a bunch though..and had fun.

We had a pretty good year, of course more would have been better.
925 GAL. from 2900 taps. Had vacuum problems for the first week, Flue pan leaked all season and our (new) storage tank leaked all season and we didn't know it till the snow melted from around it. We should have easily made 1000Gal. There won't be anything leaking next year, and the vacuum issues are solved. New season starts today. Congratulations Everyone!

Made around 50 gallons with 235 taps, only 4 of which were B. Most this years was A Med.
Hood and pre-heater made a big difference. No problems or issues to deal with. Everything went smoothly, unlike last year.
Summers plans are to add on to the sugarhouse, get a new holding tank and mechanical releaser for vacuum, and probably 100-150 taps.

1034 total taps
Roughly 4500-5000 gals of sap.
Not to bad a year for the first year with a leased sugar house.
I"m happy.Will post rest of the numbers after I get things cleanned up and have time to figure up.

18 Gallons total, 4 gallons Med Amber, 7 gallons Dark Amber, and 7gallons commercial with 81 taps all buckets all on a home made arch with a homemade raised flew 24 x 30 inch pan. not too bad for for my first year.

I finished up the last of mine today. 78 gal off 425 taps, all gravity. 50 taps on reds were pulled after 2 weeks because they broke bud. The remaining 375 taps on sugars in the final 3 weeks gave me over 75% of my crop. Of the 425 total taps 49 were on buckets, bal were tubing, gravity.

We had a great first year getting 62 gallons from 180 tree-saver taps, all buckets. About even production of light, medium, and dark. We learned a lot and have a list of "to-do" jobs before next year, headed by work on the muddy road to the sugarhouse.

Reaming stretched out the season for us. Re-count of taps brought us closer to 235 (do we all over-estimate our taps?).

Season 1 till March 31: 25 gallons (5 commercial and 20 A Med and Dark).
Season 2 April 1 - April 21: 20 gallons (5 commercial and 15 B).

Getting closer to the quart/tap. Loved the vacuum.

Next year - more taps and a 3x12 or keep the 30X8 and ad an RO.

I finally got around to counting some taps.

Home: 135 taps, all reds ( vacuum delaval 73)
Weeman's: 432 taps, 431 reds and 1 sugar maple(vacuum sp-22)
Buckets down the road: 47, all sugar maples buckets

Total: 614 taps, 103 gallons of syrup.
