Just picked this up today. Hopefully I'll be able to get the evaporator finished before I need to boil! I don't have many trees so this should be perfect. The top will be replaced and the stack vented out the back. Fan is coming off obviously. This will be topped with a 24x33 flat pan. Stove came already firebricked. Score in my book for $100.

Got it home and set today, just waiting on my pan which I should get tomorrow. I'm a little concerned the solid top will slow the evaporation rate. I'll see what happens, if it's to slow out comes the die grinder. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170303/b9be8bf645794879fc119db9e3d258cb.jpg

Not sure how deep your pan is going, but your exhaust stack seems a bit low. You may want to raise it to just under the pan, so this bad boy acts like an arch. Since you are already going with galvanized, you could throw a boot connector at the top.

Is there a disadvantage to galvanized? I'm new to this and that stack was free. I didn't think it mattered as it wasn't inside. As far as the height goes it will be on top for now. Might try a test run with some water tomorrow.

Galvanized gives off bad fumes when heated, but your outside and will be fine.

For what my opinion is worth I would cut the whole top off where I put the red line and set the pan on it. While you have the top off I would also weld a baffle in there to force the flames to lick the bottom of the pan.

I think you will find it very inefficient if you don't cut the lid off and expose the pan to the flames.

Made some modifications to get the big pan to fit and right in the fire. The amity to use 2 steam trays will be for finishing and smaller batches.
