Ok, I did try to search and find the answer before making a new thread. I even googled it and came up kind of confused.
I did find that it is made by Caravan Ingredients.
I had a person ask me what my defoamer is made of.
I use Atmos 300K from Leader Evap. I know it is Kosher and I have been told in the past that it is a vegetable based oil.
Beyond that I am at a lost. The person asked me if it contains Soy??? I did not know.
So what is Atoms 300K made of or from? Is it organic? Should I worry about it causing allergic reactions with some people? Is it really Kosher?

It is NOT organic. Leader says it is Kosher.

For the MSDS sheets for ATMOS 300K deformers both the liquid and powder, go to
www.pamapleassociation.org
At the bottom of the first page is "link" to get to MSDS sheets for commercial sap defoamers. The K in both liquid and powder is for kosher. According to the Pa Assoc. investigation into all of the defoamers, all except D&G use the same manufacturer. D&G would not provide the info in English.
I hope this helps.

Daryl, I couldn't get there off the link, but when I searched the Pa Maple Association it looked the same, and that got there. When I discovered that, I edited the post to leave more space before and after the link, but that didn't help either. I'm not sure if it is my issue or a link issue.

Ok, so from the MSDS sheets that Daryl linked us too the second one states that it is
"Facility Allergens and Sensitizers
Soy"
So this is telling me that it contains Soy right?
I guess the next question is what choices do we have for defoamers that we do not need to worry about our customers having an allergic reaction to it?

You can use canola oil.

Will canola oil add any favor to the syrup?

Don't know because I don't use it. Maybe others can chime in.
I use safflower oil because it has almost no taste to it. It does not leave any flavor in the syrup like some oils will. Also, the Atmos defoamer will leave a flavor in the syrup if you use much and have good taste buds.

Remember most any oil can go rancid and taste really bad! Best to keep it refrigerated and taste it before you use it especially if you have some left over from last year.

I have been using atmos since I started this maple adventure and after every season I put it in the freezer.
The only time I use it outside of sugar'in season is when I make granulated sugar.
I really never thought about allergic reactions with using the defoamer. 1st, we use so little and second I personally am not allergic to anything that I know of.
It was not until a few days ago when a group of 4H'ers stopped by to see how maple syrup was made and ask any questions. When I was explaining how to deal with foam one of the parents asked what the defoamer was made of.
I knew it was a vegetable based oil and it was Kosher, that was about it.
Organic would be nice, biggest thing is taste. So I may buy a canola, sunflower and safflower and give each a taste test and then make my choice.
Thanks again for all the help.

As for soy I can't have it at all. I have shortage of breath and it makes my heart race and very light headed and sight. Not good for me at all.

Keep defoamer in freezer in off season will last for many years.

For how inexpensive it is, I just toss it at the end of the season and buy new.

I know the Atmos defoamer is vegetable oil based so why can't they make it organic? I would use the other oils directly but I just don't like how much you have to use and that it doesn't work as well as the Atmos defoamer.
