I've been seeing so many post from our friends down south and east about tapping. Makes me jealous! I have seen several people talk of the long range forecasts on NOAA, but I can't seem to find any such link. I'm not thinking about tapping any time soon, but I do like to know the long range prediction for our weather. I know the weather and forecasts change hourly, but sometimes the long range forecasts come in handy. I am putting up a 3/16 line or two this year on gravity. Looking forward to seeing some warmer weather soon to get the laterals out there. Happy Sapping folks!
You will love that tubing, makes collecting a lot easier.Plus more sap.

What do you think of this warm weather coming? 20's-40's cycle. Oh, the temptation to tap, but no, not yet.
Limited to 50 taps, so I boil enough for family and friends.
17 years and still boil outside over wood.

Hi 18mile. I too usually wait until mid-march. I do see a pretty good warming trend coming up for the next ten days and NOAA is predicting a warmer by 30% month. Hmmm. I just may have to get some last minute things finished, so I'm ready, just in case.

Alot to do this week to get ready. Mostly pressure washing all the equipment/tanks. Last year on my old calender I started tapping March 2nd and our first cook day was the 11th. I know a few friends cooked before me that were more on the ball then me. There was one year many years back we did start cooking the end of February. A few weeks ago on my facebook page some of the producers out east say in their videos that this is the first time they made syrup in January! The one producer been at it 40 years. I guess a person has to be ready asap with the crazy weather swings nowadays.

had high of 72 deg f in missouri yesterday. on our 3rd boil of the season so far, we'll see how this warm weather syrup tastes as this batch of sap was darker in color, we expect about 2.25 gals syrup. first 2 boils yielded 3.2 and 3.1 gallons of real light gold syrup. been a strange jan/feb so far. very dry, and temps are rarely in the sapflow ranges. john

Tapped 15 on 3/16" gravity today, hopeful for a run next week although the extended forecast looks like a couple more weeks before things really get moving. Ran another 600' of 3/16" for natural vacuum / 23 taps, will tap those on Sunday. Let the games begin!

Heading out to tap the sap sacks today. Forecast looks great for sap, if only the darn wind would stop.

Here in Hayward I got less than half of my normal production. Was a different year as far as the weather went. We also didn't have much snow or rain. I think that was the biggest reason why we had a season like we did.
