My first boil was last Friday the 27th of January. I made about 2 quarts of Medium Amber with a robust maple flavor ( my favorite ).

Last year my first boil was about the same time and my syrup was very very light with a very faint maple flavor.

Boiled my sap the same way with the same amount of flow this year VS last year.

It was much warmer this January with little to no frost in the ground while the sap was running. Would that explain things?

Thanks?

Where in CT are you? Everything I've bottled so far this year has been golden or lighter. Strange that you're getting darker syrup so early....

Same thing happened to my friend, I've had three boils all light grade a and he just boiled 2nd time and came out really dark. Not sure why but weird for being so early

I have 8 taps in Georgetown CT and 8 taps in Hopewell Junction NY which is really only about 30 linear miles northwest of Georgetown CT.

Ground was not frozen at all when I put the taps in two weeks ago today.

It has frozen a bit since, or certainly a bit in the past week.
