I think the season may be very close in southern MI. I was glad to see a small freeze after the early January thaw, but i think this extended forecast will be the start. I'm getting ready to tap this weekend i think. What do you guys think?

15 day forecast looks marginal up here in the Thumb area with only 1 or 2 days reaching mid/low 30"s. Clay

I'm looking at tapping on Feb 12th (right now). We'll see how the long term forecast holds up!

I Just tapped on Jan. 16th during that warm spell in SE Michiagn. I boiled down 8 gal maple sap (3 small trees) on Jan 22, got 1.5 pints syrup. Just checked the buckets tonight, they ran a quart of sap today when the temp. reached 50+ degrees in the sun. Forecast looks great starting Sunday for me, can't wait for more sap to flow.

I also tapped black walnut on the 16th, and four out of 10 trees have 2.5 gal sap in their bucket waiting to be boiled. I plan to tap more this weekend as well.

Tapping early so I don't miss the season like I did last year.

Looked at all the weather apps. Of course accuweather goes out the furthest. Looks like I'm going to tap next weekend the 11th. Probably the earliest I've taped ever. I'm still not ready. But the weather predictions look steady. I don't like late season any way. Im not set up for above freezing temps for days at a time. temp variations look really favorable so far. Good luck everybody and have fun. 
