My apologies if this is a double post. I thought I had posted this question, but now I can't find it on the forum:

I just bought a new 12v Shurflo 4008. When I tested it, water spurted out. Is this typical? Do they quality test it before it goes out? Every other aspect of it is new - right down to the wiring. I just need a second opinion before I call the seller.

Thanks,
Sean

We just purchased one of these pumps and our test went well, but we have not put it into service yet...looks like tomorrow may be the day. Can you be a bit more descriptive about how you were testing and where the water spurted out?

Ha, sorry. I took it out of the box and connected it to a 12v power supply on my workbench.

Probably no help here....we hooked ours up to some tubing and pumped water out of a 5 gal bucket to make sure it worked. It did fine, but since we had it in water I have no idea if it had fluid in the pumping chamber when we got it.

I have bought several of these pumps and yes I do believe they test them before shipping them out. Mine all had a little water left in them as well.

Sean D- I just wired one up (new) and it did the same thing. Probably normal from their quality control people.

Good luck.

Mine all spurt out a little water the first time out of the box when I fire them up.

That is all I use is 5/16, as a mainline too. I know a lot of folks swear you have to use a larger mainline, but I have to take mine down and put back up every year, so messing with a main would be a huge pain. I seem to have good luck with just 5/16 with up to 70 taps.

Yes they factory tests them, I worked at a RV store in High school and every one I ever Installed already had water in the pump. And to answer another question I use 3/4 main line and thenot reduce it down to 1/2 before it goes to the pump. One pump has has 100 taps on 450' of main line and pulls 16" the other has 144 taps on 200' and pulls 18", anther has 280' with 120 taps and pulls 16". The one I am setting up now will be about 350' with 150 taps.

I run three of these pumps on 5/16 because I take the lines down each season and have great luck. I have equal production from these as my bush on 3/4 mains and a vacuum pump pulling 24 inches. The three lines range from 16 to 60 taps and the 60 tap line is 500 feet long. I have been told these pumps don't have cfm s but work by evacuating the SAP from the line creates the vacuum. I'm trying the 16 tap line with 5/16 drops and a 3/16 main line for a conversation peice. Jeff
