have some sap in the line this morning. sugar content is exactly 2%.
i threw a tap in a few days ago to keep an eye on the run, nothing this morning though. need another week to get my lines up and still waiting on my evaporator too. due in any day now.

collected 30 gallons today and I'm only half tapped...tomorrow I get the pan clean and work on the sugar shack. if it runs tomorrow like it did today, i could be sweetening the pan sooner than I thought! How many of us are "almost" prepared in January and find themselves scrambling for the smallest but important items to get running??

indeed. a new property down the hill from me. I popped in one day a few weeks back and asked if I could tap. For a quart of gold they said have at it. They are old trees 80- 100 years old.

yea, i thought the same thing...trees gave some, but i didn't collect...perhaps i will go out in the morning, and empty, in preparation of anything tomorrow? IDK, i thought it was going to be a good day today...can't predict these things, stock market is "easier"!

there is a guy in manchester/vernon that sells food grade containers of every size and shape. he's on craigslist. i bought a IBC tote from him a few weeks ago, i need to go grab another one. he had 5G buckets last time too. i think they were $1 ea?

first boil today..100 gallons down to concentrate. If I had more sap, I was drawing syrup on the next fire! the pan is officially sweetened! I always forget how long the first boil is...

3 quarts made. Inside! Sweet! But messy in the house. :) I need to get a burner and pan for myself. 10 taps in between here and my daughters. Pulled my hamstring today. email me...kirstenwalker60@gmail.com when you're boiling and I'll come "help".

boiled today for 4.5 hours and sweetened the pans. tapping another 20 tomorrow to get me to 85 taps. 75 gallons in the barrels to process tomorrow morning. Time to play catch up and bring up my totals. I was away all weekend and thank goodness for friends who collected for me! It's supposed to get down to 20 tonight so tomorrow will be another great day!
Good luck to all!

8 hours of boiling today. about 175 gallons. my draw-off was 3.5 gallons (boiled 4.5 hours yesterday). the 10 day doesn't look promising. There's at least 2.5 gallons of syrup in my pan. I'm thinking of draining it and finishing it off and clean the pan. I went through almost ¾ cord of wood this season so far and I'm running low!

2 of my 30 gallon collection barrels from Saturday and Sunday was testing at 2.8% sugar. Today everything I collected was a hair over 2%.
I just tested some of mine it's 2.25%, was hoping for 2.5% but it works.
