Shurflo Sap flow while off

Does sap flow through the diaphram when the pump is off? I am wondering how this will affect my system if the pump craps out and dont notice for a few hours?

Sap does NOT flow through a Shurflo pump if it is not running.

Add a motorized ball valve for a bypass. So if the motor is off the ball valve opens automatically to bypass

The motorized ball valve works great if you are automating it, that's what I use on my controllers. Valve will open and pump turns off either if temp is below freezing, or if battery runs down too low to pump.

On my shurflow pump, the sap just runs through it if it is hooked up and off.
