This might be the perfect time to change to an air powered diaphragm pump. My gear pump needed rebuilding and I changed to the diaphragm pump. Huge improvement. I got this one: https://www.zoro.com/aro-double-diaphragm-pump-air-operated-200f-pd03p-als-kaa/i/G2537026/. The syrup never hits the pump above the 200 degree max. Others get ones good for 212F or 220F.
Once you switch to one of these pumps it will work like a dream.
