Really thought about it...... Temps next week supposed to drop so holding on. Someone in Dundee on FB has said he has gotten 10 gal from 3 trees last 2 days.

I’m near Lansing.
Last week of Feb, first of March is the typical “go” time here.

Folks get itchy and start drilling holes during the January thaw. Don't let it fool you.
Feb is usually brutally cold, and the weather guessers are calling for a dive in temps come late next week.

If you want to pull that trigger now, go ahead and go for it, but you’re likely aiming at your big toe.

I only have a few Maple trees I tap in SE MI and I did tap them last Sunday. So far, my best tree has run about 2.5 gallons and the rest a close two gallons each since I tapped. I also tapped one of my black walnuts and have gotten about a quart of sap, which has been typical in the past for my black walnuts.

I know I may have been early, but just do this for our family's use and couldn't let the unusually long January thaw in Southern Michigan pass by.
