Should I insulate and brick the bottom of my arch
To try and contain heat loss from the bottom

Personally, I would just brick it..keep the insulation for the sides

Brick is insulation and you really only need it in the combustion chamber. The flue pan section can be blanket. Faster Cheaper and works better for heat retention.

Are you talking about adding arch paper? Brick is terrible insulation. Adding arch paper to the sides of your arch will help for sure. I have not seen it recommended to add arch paper under the bricks on the bottom of the arch, but I suppose it couldn't hurt.

I'm doing mine Thursday. Going with Roxul board about 2" and half brick Dubble up in the box and blanket and half brick on the flue pan. Oh and I an have brining the bottom on a cement floor.

Heat rises. I don't think you have to worry about heat going out the bottom. Ever seen people standing around a fire in the middle of a frozen lake? Very little heat goes down.

I would insulate.
Always burned my lawn under the stove and couldn't get near the underside of the stove with no insulation.
Way more heat will go up with it.
