Im just finishing my rebuilt on my arch. The old pans had brick under the Flue pan and about 1/4 clearance between the flues and brick. I have 2 inch ceramic blanket going under the new pans and with the pan set on the arch it pushes the flues 1/4 inch into the blanket. Is it ok to leave these touching or do i need to get a 1 inch blanket? Thanks Jeff

My pans seem to boil harder when the flues sit in the blanket.

Wanabe Do you have rail gasket under the pans?? You need that space for the hot gases to flow under the flues. Your heat transfer will be better with that space. You can compress the blanket a little and more after a good fire so try that.

I bought a 12 foot roll of 2 inch and a 12 foot roll of 1 inch so i could run the 1 inch under the flues and the 2 inch everywhere else. After measuring it it was going to compress close to an inch.

Set the pans on 1/2" rail gasket. This would then be perfect
