Anyone tapping yet? The 15 day forecast is looking really good. We tapped at the end of January last year too. The sap is flowing, I tapped a couple trees and they were dripping pretty good.

Have 8 taps out in the yard just to see what I can get. Itching to fire up new evap and let her rip. Going to wait a while before putting out the rest unless something really happens.

well, the 5 gal pails are now about 1/2 full and the sap sacks that I put out Thursday have about 2 quarts of sap each. So from 8 taps I only have collected around 6 gallons of sap. Only got up to 32 F today. Weekend looks better and the following week should be perfect--upper 30's to 40 daytime high 20's at night.

We collected about 75 gallons from 30 taps on Thursday. This week should be productive.

Holly Chautauqua County........sap is flowing today. Checked sap sacks and pails at 2:00pm when I got home from work and may need to collect tonight so the don't overflow tomorrow. Looking forward to maiden fire on new MASON 2X3 this weekend. Good thing too, down to my last quart of syrup. Only up to 14 taps as of today around the house. Silvers and sugars running really good. One silver is dripping like 2 fluid ounces a minute.

I think I'm done. Just checked 39 taps and only about 10 had sap. Grant it, they had a fair amount but not enough to justify keeping them all out. Maybe 20 gallons of sap in total. Was 9 degrees Sunday morning, got up to 38 late afternoon, was in the mid 40's yesterday and 60 today. Was hoping for better production. Ended up with 3 1/2 gallons syrup, and 4 lbs of sugar this year. I think I will have enough sap for 1 more gallon if it doesn't go bad.

The 2018 season is creeping up on us. Anyone thinking about catching the run this coming weekend?

Thinking about it but hoping I don't! Still working on repairing lines. Had a lag bolt snap that holds up 800 feet of 1 1/4 dry line so that won't be a fun fix. I would like to see a more normal winter this year. I am sure it will run this weekend, but it still seems way too early to pull the trigger.

Good luck with that repair job! Hope you get it done in time for the season!

Started tapping yesterday. Only one on the drill and I got the first section with about 500 taps done. 1500 more to go. Looks like headlamps after dark tonight and all this week. Guarenteed winter will return with a vengeance now that I tapped trees.

All tapped in with the vacuum lines. Chased leaks on about a quarter of the lines. Will search for more when it starts to flow again and I can see the bubbles move. Was running at about 17 and got to 21 with the small holes I found. Have 45 more taps on a gravity line to finish up. Might do that tonight after school.

If you boil next week I might swing by..... let me know when you are up and running.
