So I build a preheater last season and would like to build a hood to cover part of it. Is galvanized sheetmetal ok for this use ? Is so what is best for cleaning it for use ? I will have drip channels on it to prevent condensate from going back in the pan.
Thanks for any advice on this build.

My hood is gavinized steel very old my grandfather had it made locally at a HVAC shop its riveted together.mI would say just hot water and dish soap for the first cleaning.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I can use it then... I did a bit more research and galv is ok up to over 300 degrees so steam should not present an issue. I will clean it as well as possible and go for it, long term a stainless hood would be my final solution. This will also give me an idea how much more preheating I will get with a hood...
Happy sugaring !
