What has everyone used for general wiring in their sap house? Is common romex ok or would a sap house be considered a damp or wet location and require different wire? This would be for general lighting and outlets etc. Thanks in advance.

I used all regular wiring in my sugarhouse. Most likely you won't have lights directly over your steam so you can avoid having wires there as well. A ground fault outlet on each breaker for receptacles is a good idea like you would put in your bathroom.

I'm gonna use some sort of conduit or armoured cable. I've seen what mice can do and it's scary.

Check your codes believe it or not putting Romex in conduit in a wet location is a no no. I would go with GFCI breakers or at least have the first in the circuit in a dry location because GFCI's will go bad with constant water vapor in them.

Thanks guys. The person helping me was concerned somewhat with using romex due to the potentially damp conditions. I have a hood over the back pan so its really bearable steamwise. I told him the 1100° fire will burn the shack down long before us using romex haha.

I originally had romex but then an inspector told me I needed to use conduit. Since that all has been in 1/2", 3/4" or 1" EMT as needed and most is 12 ga. THHN, some is heavier as needed. You should not pull romex thru conduit.

I had an electrician run 1/2" met with regular wire in it well worth having a good electrician do this it came out looking awesome. not easy to hide wires in a post and beam sap house. And he had great ideas of how and where to put things. Now I don't worry about melting wires moisture or looks. Also up to code, just in case it gets inspected

It's not so much the damp, it's that it's not meant to be exposed like that in a workspace. I used thnn wire inside pvc conduit which is cheap, legal, and easy to work with
