Hey guys I picked up a Delaval Vp76 vac pump without a motor. What size motor should I put on (electric)? Also how much vacuum can I expect out of it?

Look it over it should have a tag on the base. On mine you can run different size motors depending on how much vacuum you need. I think you can go up to 10 hp. Has it been converted to flood vacuum. If so you can pull ocer 20 inches. If not and it is the drip probably in the 14 to 16 inch range for long time run. With the drip if vacuum is high they will get hot and can burn up.

I have the same pump with flood vacuum on it,3 hp electric motor and I am running between 25-26" vacuum
I believe you can put up to a 5hp motor on the 76. 2 and 3hp are the most common. With an oil reclaimer and drippers you can easily run 21-22" without any problems and going to oil flood you can go higher. It is a good pump as long as you put enough oil to it and keep it cool. I used to run 4 of them.

It has a tag on it, I'll probably run a 3hp motor thanks for the info!

D-76 at 1250 rpm of the pump is recommend at 3Hp.
dripper and reclaimer on a tight pump will get you up to 27 to 28". Any scoring of the housing and the vac level will be less.
These are great pumps and will have a fiber vane. Drip lube is needed to lubricate the pump and to cool it. the investment in building a reclaimer will be payed back the first season if you are buying high quality vac oil and we have a normal season length. In a short season it will take two seasons to recoup the investment.
this pump can be run on a 2 hp motor at 1000 rpm of the pump but you will have a drop in CFMs at high vac levels of 25-30%.
Good Luck and protect that investment with good oil.

2 HP = 27 CFM @ 935 rpm ( I think that is what it says on the tag)
3 HP = 36 CFM @ 1250 rpm
We run ours around 22-25"
