Roadside Trees?

I've seen many references to 'roadside' trees.

Whats the difference between a tree in the wood, middle of a field and in the woods.

The ones in the woods have alot of competion from the next tree, where as the one in your yard is most likly out in the open and maybe even fertilized, the tree near the road is also out in the open but may have ill effects from road salt depending on the road type. The tree in the woods can also benifite in some ways from the trees around it but the big advantage is that they are closser together for gathering buckets or putting up tubing.

Usually woods trees aren't thinned out enough so the crowns are smaller. Roadside trees have larger crowns. Larger crowns produce more sap and usually sweeter sap.
