Does anyone use a battery powered re-bar tying tool instead of traditional wire ties for mainline? If so what model/brand.

I just use my cordless drill with an modified eye bolt in it. Works pretty slick and you can get the tyes at lowes much cheaper than maple supplier. Jeff

I think the best tool for automating this type of work is a Cable Lasher.

I havnt tried on myself but I have heard that others have had success with them.
They are pretty expensive, but using the same principle but by hand, we just tried using some SS welding wire to wrap the mainline to the 9 gauge. You can go pretty quick, just rotating the whole spool around the wire as you walk the line. I just tried my first line using this method over the weekend and it will be our go-to-method going forward.
