Does anyone know the exact OD measurement of the 3/16 leader tubing. My tubing order is supposed to be here on Wed and i have Thursday off. I would like to modify my tubing tool this week at work so im all ready. I have help on Thursaday and should be able to tube the woods in a hurry if Im ready. Thanks Jeff

Take short pieces of 5/16 and cut them in half. Then take duck tape and tape the halves in the jaws of your tubing tool and it will work with no other modifications

OK Thanks I will try that. I think I will modify my drop maker though when I get the tubing. I probably will make a new 1 handed tool for 3/16 for next year. I just like to build things. Jeff

I can't remember where I found it but there is a video in YouTube on how to make some adapters out of 5/16, however they "clip" onto the 3/16 and you have to put them on and take them off each time.
But basically you cut 1/3 of the 5/16 off length wise and use the other 2/3 as the adapter.
Just another option

Well we ran the 2 lines of 3/16 from the tank area to the top of the hill yesturday. Used 1600 feet of line and need to order another roll to get the second line all the way to the tank. Was talkinv to my dad about if we get a lot of snow we may have trouble tapping this due to the terrain. Well there is a trail at the top of the property and one at the bottom and I mentioned that I could try to run my snowmobile down the hill Everytime it snows in hopes to make it easier to access and was going to scout out a path after cutting in my drops. My son and I started to cut in drops from the top and by the time we were done the old man had run his Kubota backhoe from trail to trail and made a sweet roadway between the two lines that I could probably get my truck through. This man is worth his weight in gold. We have 20 taps on one line and 24 on another. There are trees enough for 1 more line but I'm going to wait and see how these others do. Will these natural vacuum lines compete with my normal lines with 23 inch of vacuum? There is about 28 feet of drop from last tap to tank and 54 feet of drop from top tap to tank according to GPS. If everything is tight, you will be amazed. Best part, it's free.
Last year I was had 27-28" of vacuum on the guages at the top end of my lines. I have 4 3/16" lines that have 17-21 drops per line and have about 55 to 60 feet of drop from top to bottom. They ran a tremendous amount of sap.

... I would like to modify my tubing tool this week ...
Working for me, after trying several approaches, i.e. 1) heat melt gluing 5/16 pieces into the 5/16 tool (they eventually fell out), 2) using separate pieces of 5/16 to place on the 3/16 tubing before applying the tool (takes extra time):
This year I cut half sections of 5/16 tubing and used a propane torch to soften them and adapted them to a 5/16 tubing tool. Wrapped the softened edges of the tubing pieces around the tool jaws. Then softened the pieces again with propane torch and clamped onto a length of 3/16th tubing. (wet the tubing before hand so it wouldn't stick. Then clamped the tool onto the 3/16th tubing and let it cool.
The half sections of 5/16 tubing are adapted and stuck to the tubing tool jaws really well. Made a few hundred drops and cut them in. The "adaptors" have stayed put really well. It will take a little heat to remove them but takes only a couple of minutes and is completely reversable.

Thanks CharlieVT, I ended up making my drop maker and two handed two double barrel action. It will work both 3/16 and 5/16 line at the same time. I have pictures on the member gallerys under wanabe1972 if you want to see them.

Kinda off the subject but the Leader website has the tubing but no fittings???
There is Leader fittings. Go to Bascoms website to see them if you can't find it on the Leader website.
