I'm Making a 2x6 pan set consisting of a 2x4 v-flue and 2x2 reversible cross flow syrup pan. My question is were is the best place to draw from, the front near the door or the back by the sap pan were there is more heat. I know Sunrise has done this with good results and the revolution type pans also use similar location and claim more consistent draws and lighter syrup. I could not find much on this subject and hope to start pluming my pans soon. I attached a sketch, Any hands on knowledge or opinion would be appreciated, thanks

Toward the back would be optimal, but it's not the end of the world.
I have used pans that were both ways and did not see much difference.

I have mine at the back and like it there as it is the hottest area. Smokey Lake has gone to drawing off in the back on their pans also.

I'm leaning towards the back also, only thing I hear or read is it may be touchy back there especially when drawing off. This site is great, thanks for the input.

I think a lot depends on the arch design, and the flame flow through the arch. A steep ramp will focus more heat under the front pans than will a gentle slope. AUF and AOF will have an effect as well.
I like the front. My front section tends to be a little less-hot than the middle and back, and therefore does not tend to scorch as much and is less touchy when the valve is open and the depth is dropping.
I know some people with newer 18"x 60" arches (don't remember the vendor) were having a hard time getting the front section to boil. In that case - back would be much better.
