crystals in barrel

I just opened a barrel of syrup and after removing the syrup there is about 50 pounds of crystals still in the barrel. How does one go about getting the crystals out to reheat and thin properly?

Hot water (boiling is good) will dissolve them. Your syrup may have been a little heavy.
