Morning all,
I was reading through old threads this morning, and came across one where Dr. Tim said that a new revision to this manual was scheduled for 2016. Any updates on this? I am looking to pick up a copy, and if it is going to be updated, might as well wait a bit for the newer version.
I am also trying to find a book with a decent amount of information on tubing and vacuum systems, for the beginner?
Thank you,
Scott

I haven't seen a new edition yet, but the best tubing reference I've found is The Cornell Maple Tubing Notebook. It however pre-dates the 3/16 tubing concept, unless a new revision is out for that.

A report will be made on the status of the manual at the NAMSC/IMSI meeting taking place in Burlington, VT, later this month. Ask me about it after that point.

That is correct. The release date of the new version of the North American Maple Syrup Producers Manual has been pushed back to late-October 2018.

After a few false starts, this project is finally moving ahead after we were able to successfully secure a grant to pay for a portion of the costs. The new anticipated release date is summer or early-fall of 2021, but the number of chapters being updated has been expanded somewhat from the original plan. Initial drafts from contributors to the editors are due at the end of summer 2019, with edited copies going to reviewers in spring 2020. It is anticipated that the new manual will be available (as a PDF) for free, but that associations (or the NAMSC) might also choose to sell bound copies.

Thank you Dr. Perkins. PDF files save trees!

It's moving along...a bit slower now that we're into the sugaring season. Not all chapters are being updated, but the majority are. Given the massive changes in the industry, there are a lot of changes to some of the chapters. Revised chapters were submitted by authors, then externally reviewed. Dr. Abby and I then reviewed and edited them (some more, some less). They were then sent out to Drs. Randy Heiligmann and Mel Koelling for comments. They've finished most of them and I have them back for incorporating their comments. I expect we'll have them out to a copy editor and layout over the summer and fall. Hoping to have the entire thing completed by this time next year.
