I am planning on building an oil-tank evaporator this winter after acquiring a free 275 gallon tank. My first hang-up is what to do with about 25 gallons of motor oil that are still in the tank. Can I try and craigslist it for someone with an oil burner? Are there any other ideas that I am missing? Any input would be a greatly appreciated!

Lots of garages will take it to burn in waste oil furnaces. Also Wal-Mart will accept up to 5 gallons a day free of charge.

Sometimes I see waste oil wanted ads on Craigslist

Used oil can be recycled, I believe service stations by law have to accept it. Oil doesn't get used up, only the additive package in the oil.

Is it motor oil or home heating oil?...if heating oil it is diesel fuel...

I had no idea that service stations would accept oil, or that wal-mart accepted it as well. Great insight, thank you! It's 'new' oil for diesel engines, leftovers from the trucking company that used to rent our shop years and years ago.
